Oh, how I miss Hazel....

June 12th, 2008 at 02:55 pm

Some of you may recall that back when I was working the "office" job and building up the booming side business I had the good fortune of employing Hazel the Housekeeper for biweekly visits.

Now that I'm only working on the booming business -- and I'm technically "home" all day -- I feel like I should be able to clean my own house again. So today is the first day that I will attempt to pick up where Hazel left off. I am enlisting the help of the Midget to help with at least cleaning her room, but I'm back to "doing it myself" for the most part.

Did I mention that I hate cleaning the house?

OK, maybe not the whole house, but I do hate cleaning the bathrooms. And the windows. And the floors.

But, I don't mind saving the money I would have paid Hazel to clean my house for me. $180 a month buys a lot of lattes....

I'm going to keep telling myself this as I go to scrub the toilets now.

I hate mating socks from laundry and sweeping/mopping. My LEAST favorite things! Maybe I should hire a "sock-mater"? hehe Smile

I'll be cleaning today, too. I also hate bathrooms and floors.

Sagegirl...I'll be your sock-mater. For some reason I don't mind doing that one.

Get your daughter involved (outside of her room) if she is home for the summer! A good allowance will motivate kids to do a decent job on some of the mundane things. As for me, I do not fold towels or socks, I do not put clean and folded clothing away, I do not unload the dishwasher, I do not do general neatening of communal areas. I DO read and get some more enjoyable solitary projects done like stitching.

Oh, I've tried that Mom-Sense, but since my daughter has the equivalent of a brain injury (not kidding) -- and all the associated problems that go along with that -- trying to get her to do much more than basic dusting and sorting is a challenge so there's little sitting around for me.

I might suggest making a plan for cleaning so that you don't tackle it all in one day the way the Housekeeper would, but instead do bathrooms one day, the dusting/vaccuming another, the kitchen a different day, ect. It keeps me from feeling overwhelmed by the housework. Although I still have those days where i just get in the mood and tackle it all Smile

Folding laundry is where I get into trouble. Oh, and putting it away. I am, however, a dishwashing, toilet scrubbing, vacuuming queen Smile My mother has a group of Polish ladies come every two weeks to clean. I know she's used to it, but I have a thing about cleaning my own funk...know what I mean?

House Hopeful, supposedly Julia Roberts does that.
