    I responded. Didn't want to sound harsh, but if it is too hard to save now, then it will always be... That's what it comes down to.

    Eh, for what it's worth, I guess we guys have to stick together too, so I wouldn't be too hard on Dad. No real damage is done, and it began as a passing comment. Now that the point has been made, hopefully, both father and son will go on to live a more fruitful life, with frugality and saving taken into more consideration.

    Generally, us men have pretty large egos too, and well, we don't take public beatings too well.

    Well, I hope stepson turns it around. You also wrote of how he is recently seeing the true cost of things for the first time (like skiing and flying). So maybe he is on the verge of seeing that there are choices. In every case of spending one might choose to spend less, differently, or not at all. You know that, but it is something he is only on the verge of getting. I hope someone will show him how savings compound, so that it will dawn on him that he wants to start now.
