No, we don't have any. But we did just go see the animated rat movie, Ratatouille, at our local dollar theater and I have to say it was a very enjoyable experience made even better by the fact that we didn't have to take out a second mortgage to do so.

I often forget about the dollar theater, but I think it's going to be the first place I look for what's showing the next time I'm up for a movie outing.

The total cost for three of us was $16.50, which included admission, a big bag of popcorn, three drinks and a bag of Skittles for the sugar fiend.

If we had seen the movie at the regular movie theater, I'm guessing it would have cost the three of us $50.

I probably could have gotten by with spending even less by either eating before we went or sneaking food in, but there's no beating movie theater popcorn in my book. Since we rarely go to the movies, I figured it wouldn't hurt to pay for the real thing.

As for the movie, it's very cute, but it did leave me starving for something other than popcorn, so dinner is calling now....

We lost our last 2nd run theater in this area years ago. It was pretty trashy and we didn't go there often, but it was nice for occasional cheap entertainment. I think the problem is that most of those places have fallen victim to the upscaling of everything. People no longer want just a movie in a cheap theater. They want Dolby digital surround sound and digital projection and gourmet food options and the whole upscale theater experience, and they're willing to pay for it.

As for Ratatouille, we really enjoyed it also. I thought the animation was gorgeous and the story was enjoyable too. I had one problem when we saw it. Kind of embarrassing, but midway through, I had to go to the bathroom but didn't want to get up. I really, really had to go by the time it ended and didn't even wait for the lights to come on before I made my way out. I want to get it when it hits DVD so I can see the last 30-40 minutes again and be able to focus on the movie instead of focusing on making it to the bathroom.

LOL! I saw it "for free", as this was part of my ex-hubby's b-day gift for me: he paid for the renewal of my car registration card and he included $10 so Ale and I could go see the movie...he said he knew I would enjoy it, because I love to cook..and, he knew the $10 would be enough for popcorn and soda, too!
